Although the story is a little forgettable, it was a very nice twist and a pretty good build up too, I found myself attached to some of the characters and each of them were pretty unique. Overall another great Poirot mystery!

Classic Christie. A messed up family stuck in a country hall. Bodies piling up inexplicably. Lots of stereotypes. And Hercule Poirot. Lots of fun and a good diversion.

3.50/5 A fun, little locked-room mystery, although not very Christmas themed (or featuring much of Poirot).

I wasn’t even close to figuring out who the culprit was, and when the reveal came, it wasn’t even one of the people I suspected!

I read this book primarily to get into the ‘holiday spirit’, but except for a few mentions of the holiday and the chapter being divided by the date, there weren’t any Christmas themes present in the book.

As mentioned earlier, Poirot only appears 24% into the book (on Kindle). Poirot’s sharp wit, which is a usually a highlight of these mysteries, also left me wanting for more.

Overall, a fun little whodunnit, but lacking the ‘Christmassy’ feeling, and featuring a subdued Poirot.

I found this even better with this read, since I read is last time I did randomly catch this on tv and it was a great episode of Poirot. The book was superb yet again and despite knowing what was coming it didn't spoil my enjoyment of it but enriched it, with knowing what is coming I could pick up on the clues planted before the big reveal at the end. Masterful.

Original Review
Superb, to be expected given the author and series. Actually the first Poirot book I have ever read, I have seen the episodes of the ITV series and some of the films but never actually read one. Quite good and certainly wont be my last.

You could give me a thousand attempts and I wouldnt have guessed the twist. I did guess some of the things like Pilar, though the fake moustache did make me wonder why. Made sense in the end.
