4.3 AVERAGE

Shaping up to be one of the more enjoyable fantasy series I have read in awhile. Of course the ending is the most critical part.

Very much part of a trilogy- many references to book 1 with minimal explanation.

I need more Glokta.

Plot or Character Driven: Character

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

As a Whole the book is better than the first , continuing the great characters with more depth , adding the events that are missed in the first one .

Journey to Edge of the World :
the best in terms of World revealing
We know of euz and his sons , the laws and the purpose of them , the fights between his sons , the old empire , all were questioned answered , with an interesting change of characters in the crew with the lead of Logen .

Jezal changing character was masterful, i liked him , coming from book one hating him .

Ferro trusting issue resolved partially .

All because of Logen well spoken words , adding his comic relief or actual comedy , makes him the best character in book two and the whole series .

The journey was very pleasant i didn't feel bored at all , interesting places we came upon , explaining the ancient ages .

The War at the north :
Disappointed at the first war , excited at the second , eventhough im really frustrated on the book ending amidst of it .

West character gets refiend in this book until the end . Having Named the Furious was a good chapter .

The dogman crew was fabulous, every character is likeable , ending with the death of the leader .

The fights were mainly in the north and they were constructed very well .

The investigation at the south :
Glokta's character was very good and well put in these situations of the south .

The siege was good , the display of the Eaters was good , Glokta's handling was excellent .

And the most interesting is the banks and there intentions speaking to Glokta after the investigation in Adua .

The main issue with the book is ended in anti-climactic way .
Ending amidst the battle at the north .
Ending with nothing except a rock at the west .
Although Glokta's side ended well with the end of the Gurkish war and opening the Bankers Battle .
If i read this book in its time without book three being released i would be very frustrated giving this book 4 or even 3 stars .

The book is 9/10 .

I’ll still read the third book, but it felt like a lot of ‘nothing’ happened in this book

Brilliant. Fugging brilliant.
I wish I'd know about these books long time ago.
But at least I enjoyed the first and the second.
Coming now for the third.
Bloody well written, compelling and a wonderful writer Joe Abercrombie.
Hands down, a super writer.
A must read.

Excellent follow-up to the Blade itself. Much more character development and epic battles. Thoroughly enjoyed this follow up. War is hell.
