really a short story, with no extras in the obvious plot. BUT his use of simplicity and subtle irony, as well as the Anton Chekhov character are just wonderful! Wish it had ended sadly, instead of happily, but it only took about an hour to read, so I didn't feel like my time was wasted.

I didn't even know Gene Wilder was an author until very recently. I liked his writing style and loved that the audiobook was read by him. An enjoyable, quick read but wasn't thrilled with the ending.

First, I didn't know Gene Wilder wrote novels. Second, this is more of a novella and really reads like a short story. I found the whole thing charming. Quiet and charming.

What could have been for Gene and Gilda. A sweet romantic story. I wish it was their reality.

(Yes, that Gene Wilder.) Trifle of a book about a young violinist at the turn of the last century who suffers a nervous breakdown and is sent to recover at a health spa, where he meets a young lady who is dying of cancer.

3.5. I found the writing a little repetitive and simplistic but the story was touching. Where it really takes on meaning is when you know more about the author's life: It was written by Gene Wilder, whose wife's death from cancer (Gilda Radnor) clearly inspired this work.
I was surprised to find out that famous comedian Gene Wilder had written novels. It was decent and had some humor that I could certainly picture as his. I read this shortly after his death and a lot of the feeling I had for the book was clearly connected to his personal story rather than the book on its own merits.
