This was, in my opinion, easily the weakest book of the series. It felt rushed and slow at the same time, and the only thing that really surprised me was what didn't happen.
I can't understand why Aveyard didn't use this book to introduce readers to some of the other parts of this world, rather than focusing on months of...well, nothing happening. She could have covered Mare's imprisonment in half the time, and taken readers to another part of the world she created. It would have expanded the scope of the story and been more interesting.
The point of view shifts also struck me as odd and inconsistent with the previous two books.
Don't get me wrong: this is not an awful book. It just isn't as good as the first two. I won't seek out the next in the series because this one made me not really care much about what happens next.

Oh this was a struggle to get through. I don't know why as I enjoyed the first two. This just felt like it went on forever and not a lot happened. I will still read the next book as I've got this far in the series and don't want to give up. Fingers crossed the next one is a bit more fast paced.

this was by far the worst book in this series.
it was so insanely boring that it took me way too much effort to even want to continue reading it. it was filler after filler after filler, and the plot never progresses, only having like 2 exciting moments in all 500+ pages. there's also the pov changes? im gonna be really honest, i could barely find it in myself to give a smidge of a fuck about evangeline or cameron, but i guess the author needed an excuse to write more about them.
also what was up with that ending????? u would think that after all this time, and in the span of like three books, cal would have developed as a character and reached a good point in that development where he finally stopped acting like a dumb twat—but no. that doesn't happen. we do see character development and we see that he's finally coming to terms with what he stands for and who he's with, but all of that goes down the drain in the span of 20 pages. which is fucking insane.

No❤️ Just no the book did NOT just end like that. I don’t know if I can bring myself to read the next book. Cal did not just do that to me.

Thinking about this book gives me a headache, I hope one day I will forget I ever read this.
