Maybe this works much better when performed or I need more time to digest it but I don’t find this a compelling read

Way too much reliance on spectacle and too little on plot. Buildup of conflict is sorely lacking, and limited to just a few lines of cursory dialogue such as those between a “good angel” and a “bad angel”

Lastly, on the ending—I’m fine with it being wholly predictable, but the catharsis doesn’t feel earned. Granted, Faustus is established as a man with somewhat of a moral compass and a sense of responsibility towards his peers, but for the most part it’s quite straightforward that he just aims to attain personal knowledge and prestige. There’s no subversion of expectations or any stakes established that allow me to empathise with him…

read for class —
there’s not really much to say other than that… i think i liked the premise of faustus in theory but not so much in execution.

A very long-winded play (though during Elizabethan times, they didn't have anything else to do, so I get why they wanted to kill so much time at the theatre) to tell us the story of a cautionary figure.

Decidedly a worthy play to remain in history's drama books and though I recognize its place in history, I am satisfied having read it once.
