Interesting story that I didn't know much about, but had to push myself to finish it.

I really enjoyed this book. So much I was unaware of but am so thankful for these men and women so that I and my kids can enjoys these art works and monuments today!

It was a cool story I guess. I basically read it because I wanted to see the movie but I'm one of those that have to read the book before I see the movie. It was really interesting, and sad that these men are forgotten even though they saved thousands of years of culture and history, including German culture and history. And it's unfortunate that even today, people don't understand the importance of preserving culture and history, even in countries we don't get along with. So, there's that little moral I guess.

So glad this book has re-emerged. The movie is lukewarm; does not do it justice. It brings thought-provoking questions that I hadn't considered regarding the Second World War.

When war takes place in such an essential cultural arena - EUROPE - the monuments, statues, buildings, and artworks became potential casualties. Items of beauty that were created centuries ago could have been lost forever. Many were saved. This book turns the events into a story.

It is so difficult to really communicate the importance of a painting via other media such as a book or movie. I wish someone would figure it out.

The book is MUCH better than the movie.

Excellent blending of narrative and history.

Learning about this little known part of WWII was interesting, but the book itself can be very dry.

Great WWII and art history lesson! I like that it read like a novel, but I felt that it took forever to go over all the background info before getting to the real meat of the book. Can't wait to see the movie.

An excellent read!!!

I try to finish all books I start. I could not finish this poorly written, disjointed mess.
