This was surprising great as an audio book. I was riveted the whole time. I wish I had read this book before I went to Europe because I think it would have given me more appreciation for works like the Bruges Madonna and the Vermeer works, many of which I saw only by happenstance.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me -- would have liked to know more about the post-war efforts, but I can see why they didn't fit in the author's framework.

I really enjoyed this! It was a whole part of WWII history I never knew about. After reading the book, I watched the recent movie with Matt Damon, and though as with all movies, they felt the need to add more drama, I found the book to be even more dramatic.

All of the intensity of following the Allied armies through Europe exploring towns looking for art and artifacts was truly fascinating. I really recommend it for people who like history. It was surprisingly gripping and I learned a lot. I wished that I'd known this story when I was in Europe a few years ago at the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum. It would have made the experience even more interesting.

I attempted to listen to the audiobook but unfortunately was unable to finish it. Though I am fascinated by the events surrounding the Monuments Men and do hope to pick up an illustrated version of this book, listening to it made it difficult to follow along the various timelines and characters.

I shall update my review once I read a hard copy version of this story!

Interesting idea, but far to thick with all the wrong details.
informative inspiring medium-paced

The writing can be weak, but the topic is fascinating.

Interesting piece of history, but extremely dry and repetitive.
