“The Deal” 🎶 This book is the goat! The best, original hockey romance that will make you fall in love with the MMC plus the college hockey romance trope, fake dating trope, jock x tutor trope, trauma healing and so much more. Elle Kennedy gave us the perfect book boyfriend in Garrett Graham and the rest of the Briar universe does not disappoint at all! Read trigger warnings as both the main characters had suffered abuse and trauma in their childhood and teens. This is the first book in the Off Campus series (which is set to become a TV show), the next series is Briar U that continues side characters stories, and the current series is Campus Diaries which starts the next generation (the daughter of the main characters from The Deal). My only dislike of the audiobook is the female narrator, she sounds so much older than Wellsy should be.

This was a really fun rom com. It does cover some heavier themes/topics but still manages to be lighthearted somehow. The plot moves quickly towards the back half and I almost feel like the author tried to add too many subplots. The heavier themes are discussed with care but are brushed over a bit. There are several plot lines that feel rushed/thrown in and wrapped up so there weren’t any loose ends. It was published in 2015 so some of the language is dated but I didn’t mind. Also, the author is British and some of her colloquialisms really shine through (being an MA native myself, I could definitely tell what didn’t fit). All that being said, I laughed out loud so hard and also felt for these characters, especially a certain scene towards the end of the book.  I really liked all the characters and their interactions! I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!

I was in a reading slump, and whenever I have one of those I read a different book from Elle Kennedy to get back, because they are pretty bad and dumb. And for some reason theat gets me out of slumps. But overall the characters are blander than vanilla ice cream and the plot is just incredibly dumb. Garett is so annoying, more annoying than Tuck but less annoying than Dean if that helps lol. So full of himself and what not. Hannah is aldo kind of boring and uninteresting. Neuther of them have a personalit, outside of their majors/hobbies. So 2 out of 5 🤷‍♀️

I have new obsession with hockey romance! How have I only recently discovered the joy of hockey romance?! I love hockey, I love romance, & ofcourse I love books, so why have I only recently started reading hockey romance books?
I loved this book!!! It brought together the joys and confusion of finding love, the fun of hockey, with the trauma of the past, & the healing journey  to move on. The author wonderfully mixed all these aspects together, in such an incredible way!
And Hannah & Garret have such an amazing story; both healing from their own separate traumas, but coming together to support eachother in their journeys! They are #relationshipgoals 💜💜💜

I love this book so much.
The characters were fun to read about, even though I didn't love all of them equally the whole time. The banter between the two MCs was so fun to read.
The story itself was pretty good. As with most books, there were some problematic parts but it did not subtract too much from the reading experience as a whole.
10/10 would recommend.
