problematic author !!
3.5 stars

This book was okay and some what entertaining.

Here are some of my rants about this book:

-‘๑’- the miscommunication trope DID NOT PASS THE VIBE CHECK. I hate hate hate this trope so much. All of the problems could have been solved if they had just talked to each other 🤧

-‘๑’- garret was soooo hot and sweet. But ofc he's not real 🙂✋

-‘๑’- somethings that garret said did not pass the smell test. For example hannah was upset one day because of cass and mj and one of garret first questions was "are you on your period?" Like SIR? Why cant hannah be upset without being on her period?

-‘๑’- garrets dad, arron and arrons friends can go fuck themselves.

-‘๑’- hannah is also sooo hot like- 👀

-‘๑’- i HATED the writing style so much. I got used to it but it was atrocious.

Thats all i have to say bye

Such a great combination of depth and vulnerability for s romance book! Usually I don’t read books that focus only on romance and relationships because I find them boring and superficial. But I found this one so gripping snd exciting.

Yes this was obviously a romance book, I mean the entire plot is fake dating. But the book covered subjects like sexual assault and domestic violence, and it did such a great job at it. It made me fall in love with the characters.

Please carefully read through the TWs in this review.

This was honestly such an uncomfortable read that I have to write down my thoughts. I couldn’t believe the casual misogyny, slut-shaming, and degradation throughout the book from both MCs. Like, Hannah labels the women that Garrett has hooked up with as “floozies” and puts herself way above every single woman since she’s just sooo different — her “panties” don’t “melt away” every time she looks at him. And Garrett isn’t any better! He says the grossest things about women, like how Hannah will be seen as “higher status” if she sleeps with him or if people think she’s sleeping with him, and therefore more desirable to men.

Also I couldn’t get over how no one talks like these characters, let alone college juniors. Who says “douchecanoe” and “tough cookie” and thinks those terms are hilarious?! I’d also like to share this excerpt that I cringed at while reading:

“I happen to be a fantastic kisser. Sadly, you will never get to find out.”
“Never say never,” he answers in a singsong voice.
“Thanks for that, Justin Bieber.”

Like, in what world would any twenty year old say that??

I genuinely thought this book was written in the 2000s or early 2010s but then the MC mentions the show Ted Lasso.
