This was my second attempt reading this book. The first time, I gave up after about four pages. This time, I stuck with it for the first chapter, then I immediately became invested. There wasn’t much to the plot, but I loved so many of the scenes and I loved the development of each character and relationship. There were definitely sad parts and tense parts, and some parts that seemed a little too slow, but I loved the resolution. I loved Louisa May Alcott’s writing and the language was very readable. Definitely recommend :)

I really wanted to like this book, but was disappointed. I have watched the movie, which was excellent, and that had my hopes high for this book. I think the movie encompasses not only this book but the sequels, because this book ends with beth still alive and meg not yet married . I just felt like nothing happened, it was very boring. Also the language used is very old-fashioned, as it was written in 1868, and I didn’t understand some phrases. There were misogynistic undertones, as being from that time it was expected that women stay at home and marry rich. It really wasn’t engaging. I read it from 14-16th Feb 2022 as part of the dymocks 2021 reading challenge for 'book based on truth'.

This is such a comforting book and you grow to love the characters so much. By the end of the book, I felt like I had personally known all of characters and the book felt like it was just a discussion of memories.
As someone who has not had much luck with any other classics, I was so surprised when I really enjoyed this one.
It's very long, but I feel like it is rightfully so. You grow to become attached, and familiar with the environment. Towards the end, near the middle it felt very slow and never-ending but I was so happy when it picked up again. You become comfortable with the character's and way of life. <potential spoiler> At the end, it felt like I was doing the same as the March sisters... moving on with my own life. </potential spoiler>.
