not very into this book. the story is fantastic, it’s a classic for a reason, but the writing is just unbearable to me. the greta gerwig adaption tells the story better than 600 pages of lectures from miss louisa. also jo is gay cry about it haters!!!

such a whirlwind of emotions in the best way possible? can’t be categorized as a single emotion bc literally all of them in one. it teaches u THE BESTT life lessons about poverty, class, wealthiness, independence, growth. on the other hand they splatter so much romance into the storyline but it never overshadows the plot. legit about 4 sisters growing up n the reality of it :)

stretches over the course of 10ish years, so u literally GROW UP WITH THEM 🥲 (no joke i cried the last 5 chapters bc i felt like i was marmee n i was watching them all grow up n leave the house LOL). the character development is so evident in all of them its insaneee. all of the characters are equally flawed, nothing too fictional.

although, i have to say it’s incredibly slow paced. at times i would skim through the pages because there are a lottt of filler paragraphs and chapters but once you get into it, it gets more interesting. so thats the minus points in the book :(

also the question of whether laurie belongs to jo or amy? AMY. i def see their chemistry in the books more than the movies and i agree jo and laurie are soulmates but PLATONICALLY. also laurie didnt just settle for amy bc he couldnt have jo. no he truly TRULY loved her. not even explicitly written, its more of the stolen glances, harmless flirting, and then the sudden “omg im in love with amy.”

she def has a way of writing in a v pretty way without it sounding pretentious. she makes the heavy and serious life lessons sound light hearted and wholesome af. the entire book is extremely welcoming and comforting, definitely 100% my comfort book. i recommend if ur feeling emotional or want to feel inspired. a book that makes u reflect n think n #appreciatelife :)

This is a great book if you are trying to get into reading more classics/older books because the language is very easy to understand and the story is very lighthearted. Alcott writes the four main characters so that they are relatable to anyone and they all have such good character development and you'll fall in love with all of them

I'm glad I finally got around to reading this classic even though the moralising was infuriating at times. I was expecting an epic plot arc but it was more like a series of adventures, one per chapter, with time jumps that were a bit unbalanced. Saying this, I enjoyed it overall and I couldn't help but love the Marches
