DID NOT FINISH

Self-indulgent, overly -apologetic, needy, and boring writing.

Greedy reminded me of conversations I had in basement bars in New York City in the early 2000’s with people I just met but instantly felt a connection with. It was more coherent and backed with facts than the exchanges I fondly remember and it made me adore it. I don’t think the book is really entirely about being bisexual but I was thoroughly engaged even in the essays that seems to found their way in by mistake.

‘Gay and lesbian bars, safe havens for some, are rarely safe havens for bi people. But where does that leave us to go? It’s like the gay and straight communities are our parents and each thought the other would pick us up from school.’ - Jen Winston

Greedy is an amazing book that unravels every aspect of being bisexual. The sexualisation, the feeling of not belonging, the biphobia and being ‘the unicorn’, the biphobic stereotypes of others and yourself and how to navigate gender and sexuality is this binary world.

I love how Greedy was also intersectional and anti-racist. Since we can’t talk about LGBTQ+ topics without acknowledging the efforts of other activists, in present and history.

Just the book I needed!

felt  seen as a bisexual ! !

but took a few things with a grain of salt - this is someone’s specific experience as a white queer so not everything was gonna hit.

Loved this so much.

A white millennial memoir with some relatable bits. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's always interesting to read about people coming to terms with their queerness. I don't need to read about how you unlearned your white privilege but again this book is not for me. Her writing voice reminded me Hannah Einbinder's character in the show Hacks.
A quote that stood out to me, and aptly applies to this book:
"Bi culture is everything. Which means bi culture is nothing. As annoying as this logic loop might be, it reflects exactly what it's like to be bisexual: to be told simultaneously that you are asking for too much and that you don't exist."

I love a creative memoir, though worth pointing out it’s definitely more memoir than the bisexual manifesto it was marketed as
