I thought this book was well-written and incredibly emotional. Ratajowksi discusses the horrors she’s faced in the modeling industry, the abuse of men in power, and the trauma of sexual violence. I commend her for her vulnerability. I really liked that the end of this book takes a look at her giving birth to her son and the awe she had of her body’s capability to do so. The final use of the statement, “my body,” is such a powerful reclamation of everything about her body and it made me immensely happy.

I listened to her audiobook, mostly essays on the commodification of women’s bodies in the modeling industry. I think her writing was good and she had some interesting perspectives. A lot of her encounters with men unfortunately can be reflected in a lot of women’s lives. Even not being in that industry, her stories resonated with me. I think this would have made more sense in a memoir format, as it felt sometimes a little disconnected but the writing was good.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Rape, and Misogyny
Moderate: Body shaming, Eating disorder, and Alcohol
