I was weary to read this because of how much I loved Fable. I didn't know how I would feel about following someone else in the same world. The story ended up being fine. I enjoyed it but compared to Fable, not as much. It felt like this was a simpler story with a cast of characters we don't get enough information about. The ending makes me want another book of Bryn and Ezra's adventure they are undoubtedly about to go on! I am definitely excited for this authors next book to come out!
Moderate: Alcohol, Emotional abuse, and Physical abuse

I know a lot of people are comparing this book to the Fable duology, and while they’re set in the same universe I really dont think it’s fair to try and compare them. They’re both good in their own right, and they are quite different from each other. I actually really appreciated how the tone of the book was darker and helped plunge me into a world I had grown to know and love in a completely new way. This book almost felt more like a psychological mystery than a story of adventure, which was really refreshing. I will say that if you’ve read Fable and are familiar with how Young sets up reveals in her writing, it does take away some of the suspense. It would have been nice if her unpredictability was a little less… predictable. It also felt like the relationship and ending of the book was super rushed. All of that should have been revealed more slowly I think… or at least shouldn’t have happened right at the end. It was good don’t get me wrong but I finished the last chapter and was like ‘epilogue?’ ‘another 100 pages maybe?’ but nope. Overall I enjoyed this a lot and I’m excited that she’s publishing another book in this universe later this year!
