What annoys me about this book is that it should not work to move Spensa to a new planet with an entirely new characters. It should not work to take us away from this charming little ensemble cast that we fell in love with in the first book. That should be a huge narrative mistake. I should be angry. And yet...and yet. Here we are.

I love these characters just as much (and maybe even more), and I love the story. It's so much fun. Another great book in this series.

An enjoyable continuation of the series. Even more so with this book than the first, some plot points seem just a bit too convenient or easy, but I can overlook most of it. I enjoyed the expansion of the world and some of the new characters, and have come to accept that a lot of the technology and alien biology is hand-wavy science-magic. The most irritating thing about this installment was the overuse of the expletive "scud".

A good follow-up to book 1, however I missed interactions between the original cast.
