It was fine and there is not much else to say. Not crazy about the fae thing, mostly because I feel like it is not well executed. It needs to be either simpler or more fully explored. Overall, easy and entertaining, just like the others but this installment is nothing special.

Exactly what you would expect from a Sookie Stackhouse novel. I am already looking forward to the next one.

Now that I’m finished the series I can say confidently that this was my least favourite book. I think the main plot was Sandra Pelt trying to avenge Debbie Pelt *checks notes* 8 books after Debbie was murdered. She keeps trying to kill Sookie but can’t manage it, mainly because of Amelia’s wards keeping Sandra out of the house. They randomly add a bit to the lore in this book that were-females have a much harder time in puberty and a large chunk of them “don’t keep their personality intact” which I guess is trying to explain Debbie, Sandra, and Jannalynn all being such absolute psychos, but it seemed like it should have been brought up sooner, like back when Debbie was a problem.

Eric is an asshole in this book and it feels really random. He finds out about a marriage contract his maker arranged for him and shuts down about it. He never discusses if its possible for him to escape it or if he’s interested in the Queen of Oklahoma. Instead he attacks and verbally abuses Pam to keep her quiet until Pam basically forces him to tell Sookie what is going on.

Amelia also kind of sucks in this book, she shows up and just breaks the blood bond between Sookie and Eric without any real thought, then she invites Alcide over to Sookie’s house hoping he’ll hook up with Sookie now that the bond is broken, like wtf Amelia, Sookie doesn’t even like Alcide anymore as a friend. Then Claude (my least favourite character) gave Alcide permission to get naked into Sookie’s bed and the scene where she finds him there is like a bad drug trip to read. Why does this man think he has a chance? Why did anyone set this up? It might be the worst scene in the series, and it feels like an excuse for Sookie to kick out everyone except dopey Dermot, who then conveniently takes down Amelia’s “lame human” magic wards on the house and just decides to postpone putting up new wards until after someone breaks in and hurts him. Sookie somehow ends up naked in Bill’s house and then she’s naked in his sleeping hole and what even is this book?

It took me a bit longer to get into this book, but I put that down to my currently hectic schedule. Once I sat down and really got involved, I was right back in Bon Temps, savoring every moment. This is yet another in an excellent series of novels, and I really identify with Sookie Stackhouse. Harris has written just the right amount of 'real life' in amongst the supernatural happenings and adventures.

I am not really fond of the high moral and religious debate that Sookie has going on, nor am I fond of it being beat to death every 5 minutes in the books. It sucks that she's having to lose her innocense and, yeah hanging out with Supe's seems to mean her life has a lot more violence in it that most people would consider normal but she really needs to get over it. More emulation of Eric's warrier spirit would be appreciated. I also don't like how she seems to be waffling back towards Bill and away from Eric. Dermot does make an interesting character, however, and I like Claude, despite his interfering and snarky ways.

I love Sookie Stackhouse and have enjoyed the whole series but I was bitterely dissapointed with this book! When it ended I thought part of the book was missing....what a way to end it?! or t didn't even end it just left you hanging and not in a good place!!

However that said I will read the next book in the series if there is one in the hope that it is better than Dead Reckoning!
