First time I've read any of the Vertigo Crime - Graphic Mystery series. Enjoyed the artwork, but the story was a little weak. Hoping this is not the best book in the series and looking forward to reading others.

For an Azzarello book this was kind of disappointing. Not much really happens until the last 20 pages or so.

This was kind of a big blech. It's clear that Azzarello was going for a Frank Miller-esque noir thing here, and I suppose he succeeded, but not in a way that I found enjoyable. Not only was the story itself both misogynistic and kind of boring, but Victor Santos's art just didn't do it for me this time around. Usually I enjoy his use of light and shadow, but this time everything was just too distorted for my tastes. Basically, this book exemplifies everything that occasionally bothers me about Azzarello, but that normally I can overlook because the storytelling is good. Not so in this case.

I love Brian Azzarello's work and he's why I gave this book a try but it's mostly a dud. The art is chaotic and the book seems to borrow only the color scheme of noir fiction. None of the characters are very compelling and ultimately neither is the story. It's a pass

This took me a while to get into, but it got me turning pages once I realized it was just an old-school, pulpy noir tale, which I forever love.
