When I initially read the Hitchhiker’s Guide books, I recall thinking Mostly Harmless didn’t feel the same, as though it was written much later than the rest (which it was) and so I never finished it. After revisiting it on Audible, I’m glad I corrected my mistake.

Yes, the tone is bleaker, but the story is as compelling as the original, and equally zany as books two and three. If anything, I think it feels more in tune with the series than So Long and Thanks for all the Fish.

Mostly Harmless is messy and often confusing, but its biggest downfall may simply be that Adams tried too hard to give his much beloved series a “proper” send-off, when I think what we, the readers, needed was to believe that Arthur is still out there in the galaxy somewhere with his battered copy of the guide, a towel, and his thumb out ready for the next spaceship.

This wasn’t any worse than the last book, but it definitely did not reach the heights reached earlier in the series. I’m not going to read the sixth entry, but I am glad to have wrapped it up.

What a ride.

E temos várias piadas simples e novas permeando a história. Toda a descrição sobre sanduíches foi, por exemplo, bem exótica.
