(Mild spoilers ahead) Oh almighty Zarquon, this was by far THE BEST book of the whole saga, all the (ah ah ah) Random (towel)threads solved, the final question to the answer 42 found, quantum physics made sensible through Unfiltered Perception, lol Douglas Adams we will (are, have been, will have, mayan on-when) meet again I’m sure. Def 5 stars.

The fifth installment of the Hitchhiker's series came to an incredibly subdued and confusing end. Adams should have stopped at So Long. Mostly Harmless would have been better suited as a stand-alone read, or the beginning of a new series with all the characters in tow. But wrapping up the series like this makes it so much more disjointed and confusing and almost begs for a 6th book just to correct the mistakes of this one. It wasn't completely unreadable, but the quirky comedy is stifled by a much more serious undercurrent that I am sure can be related to whatever was going on with Adams at the time. It's not terrible, but Mostly Harmless is mostly disappointing.

I liked this one, it was a fun thought experiment with the idea of multiple dimensions. It still doesn't quite life up to the first book for me though. This time around Arthur has managed to find himself a nice quiet corner of the galaxy to just exist and make sandwiches, at least until the universe comes knocking again. Suddenly Trillian's showing back up with a daughter she claims is Arthur's and Ford's back with a whole slew of crazy following along with him.

I enjoyed seeing my favorite characters back in this one, and I definitely felt for Arthur as he world was turned upside down yet again by everyone around him. He's only ever tried to have a normal, simple life, with just a small corner to call his own. But things come back around full circle in this one and I find myself curious to see how things are going to go from here as this felt like a true conclusion, yet there is still one more book.

Just as weird and goofy dark as the rest of the series, I don't know why so many hate on this particular book of the five.
