I don't know if sandwich making is the skill I would want to be known for

I've been reading this series over the course of the past year and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, but the more I read, the more it dissolved into a fever dream. I treaded on because of the comedic absurdity, but I could not have explained the plot to you (if there even was a plot). I also found it kind of sad that for a book dealing with literal aliens, somehow earthly stereotypes and sexist jokes continued to make an appearance. oh well.

It was great to have one last journey through the world of Hitchhiker’s. I’ve spread out my reading of this series over a few years in an attempt to make the most of it but the ending has left me with nothing but sadness and a deep sense of nihilism.

Next stop is Dirk Gently but I shall await a better cover design before I buy that. It could be a few years.

3.5 Stars
The humor and space antics in this book reminded me of what made this series so entertaining in the first place, but the ending was not satisfying enough to be the series finale.
Spoiler I guess Arthur and Ford dying in the Earth explosion was an okay?? death for them, as Arthur had kept repeating in this book that he was destined to die once he reached the Starvomula Beta. But for Random, Trillian, and Tricia killing them off before any of them got even an ounce of closure was pretty questionable. And Zaphod never appeared? I don't remember if there was a reason for this but come on he was a main character too.
