This book is almost as much a history of trends within "ufology" as it is of UFO sightings. Comprehensive and exhaustively researched, I leave off a star only because it seems more speculative than the first volume. But then again, ufology got weirder in the time period covered - abductions and Area 51 conspiracy came into play in the 1980s.

Recommended along with Leslie Kean's UFO book for anyone who wants to read about the subject without all the silliness and handwaving.
