I feel like I missed something.
What was the point of these stories??
v unsatisfied
Long self indulgent talks
why so many children and adults acting like children?
why is everyone trying too hard to be teasingly mysterious
(and the whole thing with bananafish leading tragic lives... eat too many bananas and die...wow what foreshadow)
seems like the book that would lead you to boycott literature written by white people for a while
the touch of darkness in the stories didn't seem real to me but then again i'm not a white male war vet with PTSD in the 1950s who creeped on some young girls so idk

Very good. All of the stories were very good, though some more than others. My favorites were A Perfect DAy for Banana Fish, For Esmé- With Love and Squalor, and De Daumier Smith's Blue Period. Would suggest to anyone who is fan of Salinger's work, especially when related to the Glass Family.
Here I stand, absolutely flabbergasted at Salinger’s writing. His ability to create people—and express them through dialogue—is stunning. I love how he just tosses you straight into the action with no explanation and no clue as to what’s coming next.
Believe me, whatever it is you think will happen at the end, you’re wrong.
De Daumier-Smith and For Esmé were favorites. I also loved Just Before the War with the Eskimos. It kept making me laugh.

I really liked For Esme and Down at the Dinghy. Just Before the War with Eskimos confused me.
