I really loved The Acolyte and was so excited to get some more content, but this book has very little do the with the show and is more of a High Republic book. It's bogged down with THR references that I imagine would be confusing for people who haven't read any of those books. I understand they need to leave storylines open in case they're able to bring the show back, but Vernestra, Indara, and a vague reference to a past padawan are the only parts of this book that relate to the show. One of the best qualities of The Acolyte was that someone with limited Star Wars knowledge could jump right in without being lost and I feel this book is the opposite, expecting readers to know all about the Nihil, Valo, Stellan, and other THR events and characters

Awh man. I didn’t love this. I love Vernestra and I was excited for more Indara content. But this book was a total miss. Felt completely unplanned and the story was all over the place, everything happened so fast. Just wasn’t for me. Characters were great in this and they actually were, great development between Vern and Indara and the inclusion of Ty. Lots of The High Republic crumbs, but I wanted MORE. I will never forget Disney for cancelling the Acolyte.

Other than Indara, this really doesn’t have a lot to do with The Acolyte. It should have just been a Vernestra Rwoh story. It was just fine. There were little nuggets from the High Republic novels that are appreciated, but I don’t feel like it connects to The Acolyte in the way it was marketed. And I loved The Acolyte. I hope there’s more media in this area to tell the story of this critical time that Plagueis is lurking around.
