This was a book I was interested in reading due to the sudden cancellation of The Acolyte. I didn't love the show, but I don't think it was as bad as others said that it was. There were some interesting themes and ideas, but the execution wasn't quite there, though I was interested in seeing these ideas developed further. Wayseeker, however, doesn't really build on anything that was set up in The Acolyte, and was a forgettable story overall.

As a first-person POV hater, I was never going to love this. Simultaneously, I found those very first-person chapters to be the most interesting parts of this book. The Acolyte had its virtues, but I don't think that its characterization of Vernestra was one of them and the use of first person for Vernestra's POV chapters ultimately felt like an attempt to most efficiently and effectively bridge the gap between the Vernestra of the High Republic novels and the Vernestra that appeared in The Acolyte. I don't know if this was entirely successful, but it is easier for me to envision potential paths to who she was in the show.
All that aside, I was generally engaged by this story, although I didn't come in all that attached to Indara and that didn't really change by the end of the book. The pacing was also VERY fast at times, which could be jaring.
