I'm not a fan of the character Vernestra Rwoh. It's not a bad thing because I still find the character interesting.  I am a big fan of the Acolyte series and will take a look at anything that explores more of that era of storytelling.  This book does that with the character Andara.  I'm also a fan of Justina Ireland's writing.

The pace was pretty good, but the switching of point of view took a little getting used to.

It was a fun read.

I really enjoyed this one. I loved The Acolyte tv show and this definitely helps with the fact that there’s no season 2. It was fascinating getting some of the backstory for characters in the show. Vernestra and Indara work well together and really balance each other out. I really hope there are more books featuring them in the future.

I didn’t love the choice for Vernestra’s POV to be in first person and the book felt a little YA at times despite being marked Adult, but I enjoyed it for the most part.
