It didn't so much tug at my heart strings as rip my heart out and ram it down my throat. Good stuff.
It was good. I think we're still being introduced to a lot of the background characters and the evil minions right now. Definitely will keep reading, but nothing that exciting happened here.

Even better than the last volume! Eric and Alphonse continue on their way to find the real philosopher’s stone and information on bio alchemy. As they travel, they end up on a train that’s been held hostage and they encounter a Colonel, a flame alchemist. He introduces them to a man that claims to have created a talking chimera.
This volume is quite dark. The first had a dark scene when Eric and Alphonse first tried transmutation, but this volume features a Scotty about child abuse and animal cruelty. There’s also mentions of a genocide.
We see more of Eric’s struggle with losing his mother and his bond with his brother. We’re introduced to a new antagonist, Scar. We’re also introduced to Armstrong, a strength alchemist and he’s funny.
It’s all around a really interesting volume.

Ah, the infamous storyline. That was really hard to read.
Some amazingly cute and buff new characters (if you've read/seen it, you know who I'm talking about), one long but cool fight scene, and more world building. Not much can happen in a single volume, but this is still seriously entertaining.

Ed…ward…
Did not disappoint. I’m also seeing why the first anime didn’t work out so well, she fits a lot of story in one volume.
