Action-packed, thickening plot, three-dimensional characters, and humor drizzled on each character, Fullmetal Alchemist is a book that should definitely be read by all. Left me with tears in my eyes and a warm heart for every character that you meet along Ed and Al's long journey.

Oh this one got a lot darker with this story line. Gave the story more gravitas. Also, not knowing where his character is going, I really like Alex Armstrong!

This volume of Fullmetal Alchemist is the first big moment of heart break. You want to make FMA fan cry? Show them a picture of the Nina/Alexander chimaera. It’s a small plot arc, but it really does make an impact. The rest of the volume continues on, introducing the Elric boys to Scar and continuing the background plot of the seven deadly sins.

I really struggled with rating this 3* or 4*. On one hand, this manga is the basis of one of my most favorite anime series ever, a series that I even added to my meager bluray collection (to clarify, I mean FMA:B, not the first incarnation - I'm one of the few who loathed that one). On the other hand, this was a slow volume that was conveyed most excellently on TV, and retreading it here was a bit...uneventful, to me.

All in all, it probably deserves 4*, but my rating is what it is.
