Definitely liked this 2nd installment in the Breeds better than the 1st one. The main characters were better developed and written which made for a much smoother read. Hopefully this series continues to get better & better.

I probably shouldn’t have started this series on Book 2. While it can be read on it’s own it seems like I’ve missed some world building. The couple was believable but the story fell flat for me -again it felt like I was missing some background on what was going on. The book was repetitive as well. The “scenes” just seemed too similar.

Not as good as the first book, but still good. It seems a bit toned down in comparison.
The Man Within picks up three months after the end of the first book. I don't think this one adds much to the ongoing story, but it does add some. The Breeds are moving forward with society in whatever way they can and appear to have grown in numbers.
I think they changed a little of the science and biology, but that's not a big deal. It's wasn't a significant enough change to impact anything.
Taber says, "baby," constantly and it annoys me. I hate the cliché pet name of, "baby." Sweat seems to be played up significantly, that's kinda gross. Most of the sex scenes are fingers, that's a little disappointing.

Lora may have written these type of books first but Laurann Dohner does it better. It is missing the back story and is predominantly smut. Started off good and then I got bored.

I really like Lora Leigh. I think she does a great job with love scenes, better than a lot of authors. I also like the Breed series so far. But it is missing some depth and character building. Since I consider this book/series erotica, and most erotica is like that, I'm not too upset about it, but it would be nice. In this book, though, she does do a pretty good job of building Roni's character a bit. I think it could have been even better if we knew more about Taber's back story as well.
In the first Breed book about Callan, we did learn more about his background. But in this book, we don't know anything about Taber's past, except that he was obviously part of those who were experimented on. We don't know how he handled it, how he feels about it now, what he first saw in Roni, etc. He's a mystery.
So that takes away from the story a great deal. I do think this series has great potential, though. It's a great concept, but I just hope the future books have better character and relationship building going on so I can enjoy the story more than just looking forward to the sex scenes.
One thing I am happy about though, is that the stories are connected. At first, I wasn't sure if the books would jump from character to character without any real connection between them. But we still get to see what Callan and Merinus are up to and everyone is shacked up in the same house like one big happy family. So that's always fun.
As for the relationship building goes, I think this one did a bit better job. Mainly because of the fact that the characters knew each other before they went into heat. The last book was very abrupt and unrealistic. This one was abrupt too, but it was made more believable by the fact that they had basically been secretly in love with each other for a long time prior.
Despite the character and relationship building issues, I'm excited about this series still. Although it's an erotica, I really hope that gets better so we can connect to the characters and story more. For example, with Kane and Sherra. I'm so excited for the their book because their story has already been built up so much in the first two books. That should be a really good one.

I really enjoyed this one. Houston: we have a storyline! (something I felt book 1 really lacked). I really liked Taber & Roni and can't wait for Kane & Sherra!
