volume 2 of the summer hikaru died follows yoshiki coming to terms with his friend hikaru's death, and the entity now occupying hikaru's body. it is really sad to see yoshiki mourn hikaru, but also cling to this new "hikaru". and it's just as bittersweet to see that yoshiki was the last thing on the real hikaru's mind when he died - he didn't want to leave his friend alone, and he reached out to whatever entity present to be by his friends side.

this volume also expands a bit about the world. we learn that hikaru's family, the indous, specifically hikaru's dad before, were responsible to perform some ritual that kept the village safe. and now that both hikaru and his dad have failed, strange things are happening. even stranger, there seems to be a group of people in the know about the preternatural forces abound.

equal parts horror and tender, we also get to see more of new hikaru's feelings. he feels connected and attached to yoshiki, but how much of that is him and how much of that is the previous hikaru?
