I am entranced by their relationship.

I love the idea of "new" Hikaru not knowing where "his" feelings end and where "old Hikaru's" begin…

The overall village plot thickens, I remain intrigued.
adventurous dark mysterious medium-paced

Some random thoughts:
  • I wish we could see more into the nature of Yoshiki and Hikaru's relationship before he died. Cause from the glimpses we've gotten, it seems like they kinda just had a normal friendship (maybe romantic feelings),
but then Yoshiki is the last thing Hikaru thought about before he died and I don't really get that. Esp cause just before it's revealed he died from ogling too hard at a sexy tree ekdjfkskskf so I just can't imagine him as the kind of person to make a last dying wish for his friend to not be alone

  • Mincey<3 cutie
  • The horrors of societal pressure were depicted so well in that brain scene
  • Hikaru will really use any and all excuses to get Yoshiki to put his hand inside him
  • The illustrations carried!!

I want to like this but I can't. So much about this story is rushed so it makes Yoshiki and Hikaru's relationship feel really flat and weird. Hikaru keeps saying that he likes Yoshiki and every time he does I wonder why because they have no chemistry together. I wish we had time to slow down and explore stuff between them, both before and after Hikaru died (also why is it called The Summer Hikaru Died if he died in the winter?). I don't like the translation that we have. I understand they're supposed to be talking more in a southern 'hick' sort of way, but the translator doesn't use southern slang properly (like when they use y'all to refer to a single person). I don't think I'm going to continue on in the series because nothing about this story is grabbing me.
