It was top-tier—so good that it makes me want to go back and lower the ratings I’ve given other books. It’s the best book I’ve read so far!

This book is about Mallory a 21 year old recovering addict who is trying to start over. She gets a job with a family nannying their 5 year old son Teddy. There are a lot of family rules but Mallory is willing to do whatever to have a fresh start. During Teddy’s quiet time weird things keep happening. He’s drawing very detailed pictures of disturbing scenes (with his non dominant writing hand). Lots of things don’t add up and twists and turns. Especially with Teddy’s imaginary friend Anya. Great thriller!

Am I missing something with this one? I’ve seen 5 star after 5 star review but I didn’t get that. I was entertained but never really blown away. I was hoping for more.
The very ending was sweet and I liked how they closed the loop with Teddy and Mallory.
Picky complaint - I was a bit annoyed they decided to name one main character Teddy and another main character Ted.
SPOILER (kind of? but it doesn’t ruin anything because nothing comes of it)
The whole first chapter is about this research project she was involved in and then it is never brought up again until the end where a business card is mentioned in passing. Someone please tell me I’m missing something and it isn’t just a very weird and irrelevant part of the story…. That was the part that hooked me initially and I kept thinking it would be an integral part of the story. Weird..

Ah, this book had so much potential and started off strong. The last 50 pages where the twist was revealed is where it lost me. It is definitely an interesting plot but the author's choice of words and references to J.K. Rowling just did not sit well with me. Overall, did not dislike this book, but didn't love it

I like how we can see the pictures that were drawn. But i felt the ending was quite rushed, climax was not as intriguing as I thought it would be. Nevertheless, it was a good read.
