SPECTACULAR story with great pacing and a twisted, unexpected reveal. Aside from the supernatural elements I would say this book is more mystery/thriller than horror but I am here for whatever it wants to be classified as. I finished this one quicker than most because the story and characters were so captivating. I will say the central character annoyed me at times with being too forthcoming with the truth of crazy situations, but her being a recovering addict also explains the need for that quite nicely. I will be looking up additional books by this author.

The premise was intriguing; however, this book is full of subtle/non subtle racism, transphobia, classism and more. The one year epilogue was strange and not needed.

The only thing I liked in this book was the epilogue. No joke, it had more emotion and weight than the entire 300+ pages before it. Like, where was that energy the whole damn time??? If the rest of the story was written with that same haunting tone, it could’ve been amazing. Seriously.
The idea was there, I won’t lie. But the execution?? Flat. It felt like a first draft or something written for teens. The dialogue didn’t feel real, and the whole thing gave off awkward YA vibes. I don’t even know how this was labeled as a psychological thriller, it didn’t feel like one at all. The characters suddenly “know” things without really digging for them, and the twist? I saw it coming from miles away.
I guess the drawings were the creepy part… but that’s about it. The actual story just didn’t deliver. It’s probably okay for someone new to thrillers, but for me? It felt way too soft. Definitely not for me. And yeah, after this, I think I’m done trusting Booktok for thrillers LOL.
