I liked the climax through the end, but there was quite a bit of the book that couldn’t seem to know what it wanted to be. There are definitely twists I didn’t see coming, so kudos to that. But I also really didn’t connect with the MFC. She makes a lot of questionable choices…

Went in with no info, was intrigued by the prologue and wish the book had a heavier focus on that premise. Characters felt underdeveloped and very one-dimensional. There were several points that didn't sit quite right with me and felt a little dog whistle-y.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. Originally I was going to give three stars, but when I thought about it, there wasn’t much I enjoyed in this book. The first person POV read like a YA novel, and the tropes all felt so cliché to the most basic thrillers and ghost stories. I was waiting the whole book for things to get really scary, but every tense moment fell so flat.

It feels like I’m the last one to read this! 😂 I finally grabbed it because I honestly couldn’t find anything else enticing. The blurb had put me off, perhaps because of a similar real life hoax. The book does go into the paranormal, a genre I tend to avoid, but it was more deftly done than expected.
