Scary, disgusting and incredibly well written. Vivid storytelling and fleshed out, believable characters - even at their worst, most despicable. The sheer sadness I felt for Dolores and her tragic, doomed fate made me want to cry and at times I just had to drop the kindle and take a breather.

Only major complaint I can think of right now is: too much French. There are whole passages written in French, and no translation was provided in my cpoy. As a result, entire sentences were lost to me, because I was not about to transcribe whole phrases into google translate at one in the morning. As Dolly amusingly put: "But do you mind very much cutting out the French? It annoys everybody." I am everybody!

The ramblings of an unfortunately proud, woe-is-me paedophile. I love how, despite being narrated by the obsessive and delusional Humbert, if you pay close attention the emotions of Dolores Haze (Lolita) break through occasionally. Still, those emotions are clouded through the romanticised lenses of Dr Humbert Humbert.

People give this book a low rating out of disgust for how he describes a child, but the fact you're so disgusted means the author did their job perfectly. Anyone who reads this book and thinks that Nabokov's intention was to villainise the 'teasing' child and make HH the victim, clearly missed the point.

first half was incredible, then I lost interest for nearly all of the second half, with only a few moments that perked me back up. Obviously a very dark and complex storyline, the character development of HH was fascinating while simultaneously renewing and grotesque. Very gross themes; the reader oscillates between understanding and disgust.
