Gorgeous world building and storytelling. Classic adventure quest. Intriguing allusions to other entries in the Hainish cycle.
I just couldn’t get into it. Like a boring Odysseus, Rocannon traveled through time and space and worlds, and yet it felt like the whole book was about a necklace. That and a reminder that in any world there will just be wars and battles and conquering others for greed. The redeeming moments were those of friendship and cross-race/species respect, but the book still lacked a plot for me.

Good read. Another good addition to the Hainish cycle.
An enjoyable book, although without the real power of some of Le Guin's later works. I liked that you can start to see some of the author's favorite themes around the dangers of reliance on technology and the dynamics of interactions between cultures showing up toward the beginning. The story overall, though, has a very classic fantasy feel - Le Guin has said it was very heavily based in Norse mythology, and you can certainly feel that. The world-building also relies on hierarchical relationships and male domination, which is less interesting in contrast to her later writing that implicitly and explicitly challenges the expectations of hierarchy and patriarchy.

Una narración impecable, con florituras pero sin relleno. La misión de Rocannon es universal y fácil de empatizar. Genial el tratamiento de las diferentes especies, la familia y la amistad.
Historia corta que narra las aventuras de un etnólogo de la Liga de los Mundos llamado Rocannon, que, por ciertos sucesos, queda atrapado en un planeta periférico donde se fragua una rebelión. La tarea del protagonista se resume en vengar a sus compañeros caídos, descubrir el centro de la rebelión y mandar un mensaje a la Liga para que ésta ataque.
Historia más de fantasía que de ciencia ficción. Especie de introducción al universo del denominado ciclo de Ekumen. Novela nada extraordinaria aunque entretenida.
