This was a re-read for me, but it's been over 40 years since the last time I read it. I'm making a little project of re-reading some of the older alternate-universe/alternate history genre. This one's nice, if a bit predictable and quite vague on the science by today's standards. He makes fun quite well of science fiction magazine covers that show girls in bras and swim trunks and transparent spacesuits being mauled by aliens. A good send-up of pulp.

Entertaining and imaginative. Could have worked even better as a short story though, felt repetitive at times.

Fun romp, just don't ask too many questions.

Check out my full, spoiler free, video review HERE. Fast, fun, funny read with some satire thrown in. Excited to read more from Brown.

Very fun and breezy. Just moved right along. Sets up an interesting world and does a really nice job with the exposition. Never got any sense of a foundation for the grand romance, which made some of his decisions just seem stupid, but that was the only quibble.

I read this book in a scan of the September 1948 edition of Startling Stories magazine in which it was published. An amusing tale of a science fiction magazine editor who is catapulted into a world that might have been a (1940s) science fiction novel, complete with space ships and alien invaders. He must find out how to survive in this strange world and (if possible) find his way back to his own.
