This was disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed [a:Jane Austen|1265|Jane Austen|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1282032472p2/1265.jpg]'s [b:Pride and Prejudice|14920|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1166668786s/14920.jpg|3060926] and [b:Emma|6969|Emma|Jane Austen|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1309203623s/6969.jpg|3360164], for their wit and skillful narration. This book, on the other hand, was only very occasionally witty, and, quite simply, wasn't engaging enough. Little happens, even in Austen terms, and though we do indeed see a more mature authorial insight into the heroine's psyche, it does not hold a candle to [a:Virginia Woolf|6765|Virginia Woolf|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1313430596p2/6765.jpg]'s mastery.
