It's hard to think of anything to say about this that hasn't already been said.
I grew up with Peter Jackson's trilogy as it released in theaters, being in 1st grade when Fellowship came out. And through the years, these films, this story, has remained a piece of comfort media for me. But I had never *read* the novel until now.
Doing so felt like falling in love with this story all over again. Legolas and Gimli's relationship is even more tender on the page than it is on the screen, Sam and Frodo's devotions to one another more pure, Merry and Pippin's own arcs concluding with even more power and weight...
It's rare that I see a film adaptation before I read a book, rarer still for me to do so and then have the book hit just as hard despite knowing the main beats going in. But that's exactly what happened here, and I couldn't be more grateful.

Amazing book. I did not think I would enjoy it but I am really convinced that it happened.

Tämän kirjan myötä hyppäsin varhaisteininä kirjallisuuden syvään päätyyn. Erinomainen tapa koukuttaa nuoria kundeja on kirjoittaa seikkailu, jonka taustalla on koko ajan surumielinen tunne unohdetusta historiasta, katoavasta tiedosta, suuresta vaaran tunnusta ja luotettavasta kaveruudesta. En ole lukenut mitään kirjaa kokonaan yhtä monta kertaa kuin tätä.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. An interesting classic that I greatly enjoyed reading (although it took me a long time to get through).
