I was yet to watch the movies when I first picked up the book (which is pretty ironic, cos I'm a huge filmbuff), so walking into this extended world of Middle-Earth for the second time (Hobbit was the first), I was blown by the narrative, though bit turned off by the (albeit, minimal) use of Archaic English. Still, great book (or books) to read, and I can see myself picking this up in the near future!

Absolutely amazing world building. A story of friendship and bravery, the value of home and nature. Discussion of our place in the world. The very first book that made me cry when it ended.
