DNF at 30%. I just couldn’t get into this one. The first book was good, slightly predictable but good. But this one. It’s been sitting on my table partly finished for over a month. I just couldn’t really seem to care where the story went. From other reviews I’m glad I didn’t finish. Just doesn’t seem worth it.

DNF @10% In Parasite, the dogs were already at the lab when Sal and Nathan went back there, but in this book they had to go to San Francisco to get them…but they should have already been in the lab. That leads to a whole huge scene that shouldn’t have happened given the timeline of what occurred in the previous book.

Given how long this book is and how frustrated I am already, I really don’t want to struggle though something I’m not enjoying. I liked the first one alright.

I was fine at stopping at book 1, and should have stuck by that decision. The book is enjoyable, but in a take it or leave it kind of way. I don't want to read the third, but now feel like I owe it to myself to complete the series..

I remember liking Parasite, but this second book is just not very good. It held my interest to a degree, but it is very repetitive, the main character is no longer interesting and the characters who are actually interesting are pushed to the sidelines.

Sadly, this was just a dull read for me. The ending of PARASITE was interesting and really hooked me to start reading this book but I shortly regretted it because they're a decent size and I just lost interest quickly. I was hoping that things would pick up and we'd be getting a lot more world-building but it was a little repetitive and SUCH a second book in a trilogy filler book. This was a bridge to get to the end and it felt unnecessary. I just can't imagine finishing the third book, especially when my only Goodreads friend who made it through all the books in the series said it wasn't as good as the first two. Sad, but leaving it at that.

Oh the challenges of a book 2 out of 3!!

On the positive side I like the story and premise.

But it really needed to be trimmed by about 200 pages or so. Far to many things repeated here unnecessarily. The length of many chapters made this a challenging read as well. It was a chore at times to make progress in the book.

And a completely unrelated note, reading this in the Google play reader was very difficult. They don't list page numbers which I find extremely annoying as you don't know where you are in the book. Also their "pages" really don't match up at all. It took up to 80 page turns in the reader to read 20 book pages. It destroyed the pace of the book. End rant.

Symbiont was a first time it happened to me that I was annoyed by all the things I loved and that made Parasite one of my favorite series last year:
- Thoughtful realistic heroine who thinks before she acts
- A big insight into her mind and her thoughts
- Quirky scientists and their experiments
This all worked well for a series intro, but I wanted something more from a second book. More action, more info what is happening in the world where sleepwalkers are ruling the streets.
Plot dragged on at times and sometimes it was very boring...
