Amazing - I literally could not put this book down. The narrative is so engaging and you really can understand the complicated relationship between Hanna and Michael. I can't wait to see how this is translated to the big screen.
I didn't find the story very compelling at all. The characters did not evoke sympathy or hardly any emotion for that matter. What could have been a moving story was just written so woodenly and matter-of-factly that I had a hard time really caring about anything in the book.

Not quite what I expected when I picked up the book. Was and interesting read thought
"A powerful and intense tale of secrets and a hidden past, The Reader is a thrilling book. As a 15-year-old boy in postwar Germany, Michael Berg had a passionate affair with a mysterious, guarded woman twice his age that ended suddenly when she disappeared. Years later, Michael sees her again -- when she is on trial for a terrible crime."

I listened to Campbell Scott read this to me; funny since the main charachter spends much of his time reading aloud. This is a short, bittersweet love story which posed an intriguing moral question. I am glad I had the opportunity to listen to this book and will see the movie soon.
Hmmmm... I'm not sure I get what all the fuss was about. I will admit that I had to put it down for about six weeks because of school, so maybe I lost some of the drive to read it during that time. I kind of liked it, but two things bothered me the whole time I was reading it. One was that I kept thinking that the writing was a little strange and I wasn't sure if that was due to it being translated or if it was just the writing. Not bad, just strange. Also, about halfway through, I wondered what the point was. Why was I reading it, why was he watching her trial without speaking with her, why why why... I got to the end and thought: That's it? Ok. So, I'm not sure I would recommend it, but it wasn't terrible or anything, so... That's what I thought.
