The book hasn't made the impression I was waiting for. I'm very much into war-period books telling about the lives of ordinary people. Even though the idea itself and the plot structure seem brilliant, I found "The Reader" a bit boring to my greatest discontent, the film hasn't impressed me either.
'De voorlezer' heeft een ingetogenheid en een focus op lichamelijke gevoelens die me getroffen heeft.
Very original and well written. One of the more unusual books I’ve read
Great book...felt like I would understand more of the deeper points being made if I had read it with a group. A must read

I'd probably give this a 3.5... admittedly, it was difficult for me to get past the 15-year-old kid's relationship with this mid-thirties woman. How could she allow THAT to happen?! But, if you can, this book touches on some truly interesting issues. It's short, sweet, and to-the-point with a truly moving ending.
Definitely thought-provoking.

Reread in 2018 after originally reading it in probably in 2009 or 2010 after seeing the film. Loved it just as much as I did the first time.
