Captivating, moving and poignant. A compelling reminder that we can't escape our past, no matter how far we run. Schlink weaves his themes of atonement, redemption, and absolution (whether achieved or not) in a swift pseudo-memoir that ultimately, much like is often the case in life, is not entirely satisfying in its resolution.

I could not get into this book at all. It was very hard to connect the characters. I'm not a big fan of books turned into films but in this case the film was better. Sorry!
