I preferred this to Ender's Game, which surprised me at first. I have come to love the Shadow Saga as much, if not more, than the Ender Series.
John is reading this to me now but it's not going as smoothly as Ender's Game did.
Loved this book! Revisiting the Ender's Game series from Bean's perspective was a phenomenal experience! I also felt like this book had more depth and emotion to it, which Ender's Game was lacking. I'll admit I cried at least once.

I actually liked this more than Ender's Game, which I didn't think was possible.

While not as great as Ender's Game, this is well worth the read, or listen. The audiobook version of this book is enjoyable, as is Ender's Game, especially because of the afterward by Card. The idea of sharing the backstory of a lesser character from the Ender Wiggins story is one that not every writer could pull off and I was dubious it could even come close to matching EG, but it did. It increased my appreciation for the series (although Card doesn't want it to be called a series), the author and sci fi in general. As a student of psychology who is more interested in personal dynamics than technical details or fantasy worlds, Ender's Shadow delivers a well rounded story and solid characters. Not being a fantasy fan the details of author created worlds are usually difficult for me to grasp and understand and often don't seem pertinent to the story, but I understood this world and it was a major supporting character. Card said in his afterward that the combination of the two books are the basis for the movie script, which makes me so excited for the movie!
So glad I listened to the audiobook. Just as wonderful as Ender's Game.
I've read and listened to this several times over the years and the most recent listening was just as good as I remembered it. Never been sure whether I like this one or Ender's Game more, but I think I might lean towards this one honestly. Overall though it's great to go through a familiar story from different viewpoints (as these two do). Wish that it were more common.
