I liked this book better than Ender's Game. Bean seems like a more interesting character. And I loved the ending!
I cannot help it. I love Orson Scott Card. Now don't get me wrong, I have the same commitment issues I have with every other author and universe, but when I read his books, one or two at a time I am always engaged, enthralled and surprised by the depth of character development and empathy (even when I've read them before).
I had been years since I read "Ender's Shadow" and I forgot that I sortof always liked it better than "Ender's Game" (sacrilege I know). I simply love Bean's character. His story, life obstacles and in particular his emotional journey to connect. Such a complex and empathetic character. Card gives us many of those and Bean is no exception. A definite must for anyone who enjoys Science Fiction, Card, or simply a great coming of age story!
P.S. You DO NOT have to read "Ender's Game" to get this book. It can and does stand alone.
