A perfect culmination of my favourite book series of all time. Even grownups can relate to the problems of Mia Thermopolis.

I have finally finished the series. I read the last book in 2023, so I'm glad I finally caught up with this one I missed. I've been reading his series since I picked up Princess in Love at 9 years old (I'm about to turn 30). So I've always read this series out of order.
I really enjoyed this entry. It made me laugh, the way the older books did, and it had me itching to get to the end to see everything wrapped up in a neat bow. I relate to this Mia more than the one in Quarantine Princess, even though technically Mia in that book is closer to my age now, along with some other life parallels. But, I grew up with Mia, read her books throughout my teen years. This series is close to my heart and the entry after this doesn't hit the same. But this book, Royal Wedding, is exactly what I look for in Meg Cabot's writing.
Unfortunately, it's not perfect, mostly due to Cabot's attempts to make up for lack of long term planning. The original books came out before even 9/11, with the intention for Princess in Love to be the end of a trilogy. By popular demand, more books came, but without forethought, causing the timeline to get very out of whack while trying to keep up with the year the books were published, instead of the original timeline. This leads to huge time jumps between books, especially the later ones, and significant plot points being exposition dumps. And to be honest, someone who is as avid of a journal-er that Mia is, there's no way she would go years without updating. We didn't get to see part of her high school experience, her college years (aside from a hardly updated website),
Frank's death is just a footnote at the beginning of this book to open up the door for Phillipe and Helen to get back together after 26 freaking years
, and overall, everything is jumbled and significant parts if Mia's story is lost. I enjoyed this. It brought me joy. But I really hope, after having written the entry that follows this, that Meg either fixes the timeline issues or leaves Mia and Michael to their lives.

A sendoff to my beloved childhood series, the final book "Royal Wedding" depicts Princess Mia Thermopolis finally getting married! I love all the characters in the Princess Diaries-verse, and it is such a cozy and feel-good series to read. I did feel like the long-lost sister and pregnancy (twins??) storylines were a bit crazy, but the book later tied up loose ends nicely: Mia's parents, their future, Genovia etc. It was a book named "Royal Wedding" but not really about the big event at all, but all the crazy drama that preludes the holy matrimony. Really fun, Michael Moscovitz will always be one of the best fiction love interests ever!
