This is the oldest known written version of beauty an the beast and upon reading it you can see just how much the story has developed over the years. In this version Belle's father had 11 other children, I have not seen this in any other version of the story that I have read (yet). It was intriguing to see how the castle responded to Beauty. There were no magically enchanted servants at this point. The relationship development in this version was mostlv off page which was unfortunate. It does introduce the Idea of ||beauty being visited in her dreams by the Prince which I've only seen in a few other versions||. Belle spends more time enjoying the castle and dreaming than she does interacting with the Beast. I would reccomend this book for Beauty an the Beast fans who want to see where it all started. Personally, though I found it facinating, I can definitely say some of the later versions of this book are considerably better.

So the first half of this book is greaf, with a story of a merchant's daughter, a horrible beast, a magical castle and a beautiful prince that lives in her dreams. Everything eventually comes to an end, and they fall in love.

And then there is an extra 100 pages of first the Prince, then the Fairy explaining everything that happened before the book started. It was confusing, boring and pointless. Honestly, dom't read the last 100 pages, it simply isn't worth it and actually detracts from the rest of the story

I have read the version from [b:Beauty and the Beast and Other Classic Fairy Tales|31511332|Beauty and the Beast and Other Classic Fairy Tales (Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics Collection)|Various|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1471385345l/31511332._SY75_.jpg|50633540]
I believe that it is the one by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, but not 100% sure.
I enjoyed for, as I love Beauty and the Beast in general.
It was interesting to read and it was a great way to start off the book of fairytales.

Fairy tales are weird, and this one is no exception. But MinaLima's design is gorgeous, so if you want to read this story, read this edition.
lighthearted

Absolutely adored this! The illustrations throughout this book we're incredible. It was fun to see how different this story is from the Disney one that I adore. A lot of surprising things I didn't know.
