Really good supernatural thriller. The delve into the Potato Girl’s murder was both gripping and sad. Holding off on 5 stars for some science misconceptions. Otherwise, a quick and emotional read.

Release Date: April 10, 2007
Genre: Murder Mystery. Hint of paranormal.

I love Jennifer McMahon's novels and whenever she releases them I try and devour them fast because I always know I am going to be taken on a thrilling journey. This particular book is good. I didn't love it as much as I love some of her other novels, but I certainly didn't hate it either. I just felt that it was a lot slower than I would have liked. Normally, a slow pace doesn't bother me so much but the fact that this one is only about 25o pages and much of it dragged made me feel unconnected to the story. Now, if you read the blurb it sounds pretty creepy and I will agree that it is. But it was missing something that I can't quite put my finger on which is why this is a 3 star read for me.

This book was a little creepy, I must say. I enjoyed it and it kept me reading for sure. Some themes include Alzheimers, ghosts, murder, animal murder (hard to read at times). I was not sure how it would end but I was pleased with the resolution.

Kind of story that is finished in a day. The plot is intriguing enough to keep the suspense going. I don't usually read mysteries (though I've been reading quite a few recently) as I usually know who done it very early on so one thing I enjoyed in this book is that it took me a bit longer to guess.

This was a great thriller and a good story. Very quick read.

This one asks that you suspend your belief and just go with the supernatural. It wasn’t too hard to do, and I did think this was an incredible story, but I could see that some might not like the explanations that were slightly ‘out there.’ There were some plot points that I, personally, found problematic.

Kate comes home to take care of her mother who is battling Alzheimer’s disease. During her first night back, a young girl is murdered in exactly the same way Kate’s childhood friend was murdered.

When Kate was a young girl, her mother took her to live in a commune. It is there that she meets another girl named Del, who is teased and taunted as being the ‘potato girl.’ After her murder, she becomes a legend in their small town. Her murderer was never caught.

I enjoyed Kate’s memories of her times with Del. The setting is interesting. I guessed the whodunnit part quite early, but the storytelling was still enjoyable. 3.5 stars rounded down.

I've enjoyed other books by her in the past but this one just didn't do it for me.
