An engaging, twisty-turny mystery that may or may not be supernatural in nature. The childhood relationship between the main character and her oddball neighbor, Del, is well sketched out and realistic. I appreciated that Del---who is the victim of domestic abuse and bullying at her school---is not portrayed purely as a victim. The final act falters a bit, as certain elements just don't make sense but are there to move the plot toward resolution. This is a quick read, but be warned that it does have some very dark themes, many of them involving children.

This was my first book by Jennifer McMahon and I really enjoyed this fast paced book.

It was dark and scary, but I managed to finish in one sitting, maybe I just wanted to really finish while I wasn’t by myself, because I can tell you this, it freaked me out

The authors writing style kept me interested. I felt that I have not really read a story like this one before so I really enjoyed it, the material is a little grim and sad but the ending did a good job of wrapping it up. Would recommend to someone looking for something a little different.

Excellent! A phenomenal blending of a mystery with the mysterious, with long-kept secrets blending with a touch of the supernatural. Well plotted, beautiful twists in the plot. It touches on the guilt so many of us carry from thoughtless deeds we committed--or failed to commit--as children. Beautiful. I'm indebted to my friend Kate for giving me this book.
