Wow, what a good story! I read this in two days, and that was only because I had to make myself put it down to go to sleep. It was part ghost story and part coming of age story. It switched from past to present (1971 to 2002) but the time periods were woven together seamlessly.
I am a huge McMahon fan and am making my way through all of her books. This being one of her shortest if not the shortest as well as earliest books, I just didn't find it as developed as the rest of her works. The twist was easy to see coming. Even so I found it to be an enjoyable read!

Really didn’t like this one. Just felt forced and with limited character development. I was on a Jennifer McMahon kick but this might have ended it.
How often do you read a ghost story that manages to both move you and creep the hell out of you? When I finished reading, I put down the book in the middle of the night thinking, I hope I locked the door, and then realizing, Locking the door wouldn't keep the spirit out.
Not a very deep book, but certainly creepy. Kate returns home after thirty years to put her mother into a nursing home, only to find there's been a murder like the one that happened when she was in grade school: the murder of her best friend.
The characters are not exactly likable, they aren't deep, and they certainly do not compel the reader in any way. However, the creep factor is decent enough to keep the reader reading until the end. Rather predictable, but good fodder for the beach.

Meh. It didn't really build suspense. The relationships were not explored. In other words, it was kind of half baked.
Creepy! Easy read - I finished it in just a few days.
I LOVE Jennifer McMahon but this is just not it. I'm glad I didn't read this first! It's not as well written as her later books, too predictable and just plain cheesy. I thought my eyes were going to roll out of my head during the last scene.
I enjoy this author and had read one of her other books before deciding to go back and read in order of release. Pretty quick read, I burned through it, but wish it went a bit deeper with some of the storylines.
